Avnet snaps up a part of Acal

Giant american Avnet does not stop with its hunger of acquisitions : it has just announced it was buying for about 60 millions of euros ACAL IT Solutions, a part of ACAL specialized in storage, secure networking and document management. This purchase should be completed before next December, should stock exchange and competition authorities give their consent.

ACAL IT Solutions is about 180-people strong and weights about 200 millions of euros, made through a network of about 2000 resellers. Under the brand Headway, the company was present in Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden and United Kingdom. Through its Storage Networking division, it was present in Belgium, France, United Kingdom. Spareparts business EAF (closed in France and Netherlands some months ago, still operational in Germany and United Kingdom) does not seem to be included in the deal.

All these structures should be merged into Avnet Technology Solutions, most surely into Avnet Partner Solutions, its Value-Added division. In this case, this division will have to be created in France, where it does not exist yet… In Denmark and Sweden, the division is being built, after Magirus Infrastructure business purchase, some weeks ago : ACAL teams will then have to merge with former Magirus team. Hopefully, in both cases, existing structures are almost in the same neighbourhood, which means there will be few people leaving due to relocations.

Avnet will, through this purchase, gain a feet into new markets with new brands it did not sell at all before, especially in document management. Also, let us remind that in Russia, Prosoft-M is the local ACAL partner : it remains to be checked if this partnership will continue or will end with this purchase.
