SATO increases European footprint with BlueStar

Barcode labelling and printing solutions provider SATO has entered into a pan-European distribution agreement with AIDC and POS specialist BlueStar. Previously, BlueStar has been distributing SATO products through some of its European offices. Now SATO products will be available through BlueStar in the Nordic region (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden), in the DACH region (Austria, Germany and Switzerland), in Iberian countries (Portugal, Spain and Andorra) as well as in France and Italy.

IronKey and Cohort expand distribution

British network and security VAD Cohort Technology is set to increase IronKey’s network of security resellers with a new distribution deal in both the UK and Ireland. This partnership with Cohort makes memory and storage specialist Simms International, the other Ironkey distributor, lose its exclusivity in the country.

Tecpro distributes farmer software

Ingram Micro helps VARs and system integrators manage Blackberry fleets

Ingram Micro has signed a European-wide agreement with BoxTone, an American Mobile Service Management (MSM) software and services provider. BoxTone’s software is a complement to Ingram’s growing telecommunications product suite, and supports its strategy to develop a full eco-system around mobile devices. As part of this agreement, Ingram Micro will sell BoxTone Essentials for BlackBerry – part of the BoxTone MSM suite of plug and play software modules – which automates core BlackBerry monitoring and management activities, proactively alerting IT to mobile service issues then helping them to find, fix and validate them in less than 3 minutes. Boxtone Essentials for BlackBerry will be available through all Ingram’s offices, whether they have a RIM partnership or not, that is Austria, Belgium/Luxembourg, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom/Ireland.

Packard Bell signs ICC

Saudia Arabia : Acer subsidiary Packard Bell has signed a new partnership agreement with broadliner International Computer Company for its full offer.

Nexway expands in Asia

Japan : French software download specialist Nexway continues its expansion strategy and has acquired CoGen Media, which has developed a software download platform in the country. This acquisition has been realized thanks to a recent €14m fund-raising through CDC Entreprises and Oddo Asset Management. It will allow the company to be closer to Asian gaming editors, which will thus have an easy access to a worldwide download platform.

A new name for MCA

Created in 2008 in partnership between French MCA, Spanish Integral Office Comunicaciones, Italian Dibiottanta (known as Celly) and Dutch McOnomy, Ascendeo joint venture is shifting gear in 2011. Initially, the joint-venture was created to allow the four partners to have an access to broader distribution contracts than they could each on its side. "This initiative was successful, as we signed a partnership with RIM for its accessories and a license contract with Apple, to be able to design made-for-iPhone products both for us and some of our clients", explains Nicolas Ceccaldi, the President of Ascendeo. Now, Ascendeo is going farther. First, MCA changes its name to Ascendeo France. Equivalent renaming will take place in Italy, Spain and the Netherlands in 2011. In the meantime, Ascendeo is building or acquiring companies in China and Hong-Kong, which will allow it to fully control the processes of design and manufacturing of mobility accessories. Ascendeo will then acquire the shares of its four members, to create one of the main mobility and telephony accessory specialist in Europe, with a global turnover of €80m.

Microsoft appoints Aptec as VAD

Middle East : Microsoft has appointed broadliner Aptec Distribution as its first VAD in the region, following a trend started earlier this year in Europe. The program covers recruitment, training and incentives for the participating reseller base. The partnership will focus on virtualization, unified communications and security.

More Symantec for Avnet

Czech Republic : multispecialist Avnet has extended its partnership with Symantec to its PGP cyphering and authentication products. This extension is part of Symantec strategy to grow the competences of its VADs.

C2000 to name Asus sales director Brown as PC GM

United Kingdom : broadliner Computer 2000 is understood to have poached Asus UK sales director Phil Brown to run its PC systems division from February, ending his short spell at the netbook pioneer. Brown joined Asus in May from Samsung, where he was general manager of the notebook division and helped build greater market share (source : Microscope United Kingdom).

Germany : Mac specialist Comline has been appointed official distributor by NAS vendor Excito.

Ingram Micro adopts an Otter(Box)

As a part of its telecommunications strategy, Ingram Micro EMEA has signed a European-wide agreement with OtterBox to be an official distributor of their entire line of ruggerized, protective solutions for handheld manufacturers and wireless carriers. Ingram Micro EMEA is the first broad-based distributor to partner with OtterBox, further differentiating itself in the marketplace. OtterBox products, which are supported through a recently-opened sales office in Ireland, should be available through Ingram offices in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

France : American giant Motorola has appointed network and security VAD Exclusive Networks as an official distributor for its AirDefense wireless network security and management solutions.

Actebis gets a new marketing director

Netherlands : Dirk Hartog, who was marketing director for broadliner Actebis, has left the company and has been replaced by Dominik Joosten, previously e-business manager for the distributor.

Citrix and Computerlinks to part ways

United Kingdom : network and security VAD Computerlinks has confirmed it has ended its long-standing distribution agreement with Citrix, leaving SDG and Arrow ECS as Citrix’s remaining distributors. According to the distributor, the split was « amicable » and in line with the recent restructuring of the distributor’s, all the more as business with Citrix was perhaps at a point where it was unsustainable (source : Computer Reseller News United Kingdom).
