Brightstar US set to buy 20:20 Mobile

Telephony specialist 20:20 Mobile's long awaited sale to US distribution giant Brightstar Corporation is seemingly close to completion. The deal has been sealed between private equity investor Doughty Hanson which owns 20:20 Mobile and Brightstar Corp, although it is unclear when it will be formally announced. Once signed, the takeover will see Brightstar Corporation poised to extend its reach into Europe via 20:20 Mobile's network in Finland, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The company has been looking for a foothold in Europe since it sold its share of Brightstar Europe last year. It is unclear at this stage if there will be any senior management changes at 20:20 Mobile as part of the sale (source : Mobile Today United Kingdom).

A new VAD for Benelux

Netherlands: former Securecomm and 2Channel

managers Raymond Kreefft and Martin Meermann have founded a new security and software VAD, named Newchannel. The distributor will cover the whole Benelux region (through its Zoetermeer office in the south of the country for Belgium and Luxembourg) and starts its activities with four vendors: Capricode, Fixmo, IThink Security and Spamina/Aegis Security.

Midwich and 3D Systems partner up to bring 3D printing to schools

United Kingdom: 3D Systems have announced that AV broadliner Midwich will become the 3D printing company's largest distributor in the country. Midwich plans to solidify 3D Systems position as the 3D print leader in the UK beginning with an aggressive pursuit of the education market. Midwich will begin distribution immediately of 3D Systems' full line of professional and personal 3D print solutions.

Frank Reinmann looks east with Phone+

Germany: Frank Reinmann, who was COO of 20:20 Mobile, has joined telephony specialist Phone+ as business development director of its new subsidiary Distec. Distec will focus on mobile phone distribution and ethnic markets, more specifically aiming the Russian community in Berlin and Germany. Discussions with network operators and vendors are underway.

CasePower appoints DataStar

Turkey: broadliner DataStar has been chosen by Swedish vendor CasePower as official distributor for its external batteries for mobile devices.

Two new brands for GTI

Spain: broadliner GTI has added Emtec and Transcend brands to its storage portfolio.

NTT stores on Hyundai

Poland: broadliner NTT has introduced Hyundai USB hard drives in the country.

Bannister to join OneCom

United Kingdom: James Bannister, former VP of Ireland and the United Kingdom at telephony specialist Ingram Micro Mobility, is set to join Vodafone Platinum Partner OneCom. Bannister is expected to play a pivotal role in driving growth at the company which was formed in June from the merger of Premier Telecom and Business Phones Direct. The company is on an aggressive buy and build strategy which has seen acquire lead generation firm Black Sheep Communications since its merger. Further acquisitions are in the pipeline. The company is also set to take on over 100 new staff to drive organic growth. Bannister's role at Ingram Micro Mobility will be taken on by Richard Wills, Ingram Micro Mobility head of sales (source : Mobile Today United Kingdom).

Moxa in the Atlantik (Systeme)

Germany: industrial networking vendor Moxa has inked a cooperation deal with cabling and networking VAD Atlantik Systeme GmbH.

Softprom catches a Barracuda

Security vendor Barracuda has expanded its partnership with software specialist Softprom to Ukraine. Both companies were previously working together in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia.

New appointments for GTDC

The Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) has appointed Westcon President and CEO Dean Douglas as vice chairman of the GTDC and Esprinet CEO Alessandro Cattani as a new executive committee member. Douglas and Cattani will help lead the strategic direction of the GTDC – an association of the world's biggest technology distributors, which annually generate more than €99 billion in worldwide product and services revenue.

Konica Minolta appoints distributor in Punjab

India: as part of its partner expansion spree across tier-2 and tier-3 cities, Konica Minolta has joined hands with PK International as its preferred partner for Jalandhar region of Punjab for its new range of A4 printers (source : Channel Times India).

Ipswitch signs VAD deal with Infinigate

United Kingdom: Ipswitch has signed a new distribution deal with security VAD Infinigate. Under the partnership, Infinigate becomes a VAD for Ipswitch. In this role Infinigate will promote and sell Ipswitch solutions, including the company's Managed File Transfer system, MOVEit and secure FTP software products, WS_FTP Server and WS_FTP Pro to its reseller community, as well as private businesses and government organisations. The two companies have a shared objective to recruit new Infinigate security resellers to sell and support Ipswitch technology.

Germany: broadliner Siewert & Kau has expanded its offer with Hanns-G touchscreens and Hannspree tablet PCs.

Samsung appoints AT Computers

Slovakia: Korean vendor Samsung has appointed broadliner AT Computers as new official distributor, beside its competitors AGEM, Asbis and eD'system.

Micro P acquires Cohort

United Kingdom: in a move that will considerably strengthen its B2B portfolio, broadliner Micro P has completed the acquisition of network and security VAD Cohort Technology for €5.9m. The acquisition of Cohort will enable Micro-P to deliver even more value to its reseller partners through a broader security, communications and services product offering, supported by experienced sales and technical teams. Over the coming months, Cohort’s portfolio, will be integrated with Micro-P’s existing offering. This will provide greater access for both Micro-P and Cohort’s reseller partners with brands such as ShoreTel, Stonesoft/McAfee and ForeScout.
