Azlan announces new distribution agreement with Secret Double Octopus

Azlan, Tech Data Europe's infrastructure VAD division, has unveiled a pan-EMEA distribution agreement with Secret Double Octopus, a pioneer of keyless multi-shield authentication technology. Secret Double Octopus has developed a solution for the market that applies keyless authentication and identity protection for cloud, mobile, and IoT solutions. Secret Double Octopus' app helps companies to scale their network security and shift away from key-based authenticators, to a more secure keyless solution. With one tap, the authenticator app initiates a multi-shield authentication process for users in order to verify or reject the login attempt, payment or transaction.

David Harvey, director Security and Enterprise Networking Solutions at Azlan, says: "by bringing Secret Double Octopus into our vendor portfolio, Azlan enriches its security offering with an innovative solution that addresses customers' authentication challenges, is scalable and easy to deploy, and helps provide cost-effective security."

"For years, organizations have sought to educate employees about the importance of secure passwords and resisting phishing attacks, both of which have failed. It is time to replace the password", said Raz Rafaeli, CEO of Secret Double Octopus. "We are excited to expand our global footprint through this partnership with Azlan. We can offer the European market a strong authentication solution that will eliminate the need for passwords – a security vulnerability that accounts for two-thirds of data breaches."

Double Octopus products are available in the region through Azlan offices in Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

Exertis appoints Business Intelligence Manager

United Kingdom: broadliner Exertis has appointed Jonathan Wagstaff to the newly created position of Business Intelligence Manager. Based in Basingstoke with a European remit, his role will help to identify trends in the technology market, including new technologies, significant new market players (vendors, customers, operators, and others) and the impact of these new technologies on the distribution space. He will report to Stephen Casey, Finance & Development Director at DCC Technology.

"I am delighted to welcome Jonathan to Exertis. Exertis has undergone a successful period of growth with several key acquisitions across the Group. Whilst we have a very strong technology proposition, it's important we continue to identify and translate market opportunities into actions that can benefit our business, and also the business of our vendor partners and reseller customers both in existing and new territories. Jonathan's experience in data analytics and how the channel operates is ideally suited to fulfilling the task of providing business intelligence that can enable us to take the right decisions to meet our Group objectives", said Casey.

Wagstaff joins from Context, a leading European data analyst company that tracks sales and pricing information from within the IT channel, where he managed EMEA wide data collection projects for major ICT vendors and had responsibility for the UK and IE distribution, reseller and retail panels. He was also instrumental in setting up Context's VR Research Group and PC Gaming category tracking. Wagstaff said: "having worked at Context, I appreciate the importance of interpreting data and identifying trends, and the value that business analytics can bring to companies when making critical decisions. Data is often called the new oil; as distribution rapidly evolves and margins feel pressure its importance has shifted. Exertis is one of the largest and most successful technology distributors in Europe and their ambition to grow profitably, whilst looking for new market opportunities based on sound business intelligence, was a challenge that appealed to me."

With degrees from Oxford and Johns Hopkins Universities, Wagstaff has been a regular contributor to IT trade titles on research matters and has spoken at many industry events including the Plug In To Exertis channel event in May. He has specialist knowledge of the UK ICT supply chain and the global VR, Smart Home, and PC Gaming markets.

EMEA printer hardware shipments stabilise in Q1 2017

Unit shipments of printer hardware to Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) have stabilised in Q1 2017 showing an increase of +1% year-on-year compared to a fall of -8% in Q1 2016, driven by multi-function devices, according to data published by CONTEXT, the European IT market analysis company. "The Middle East and Africa (MEA) outperformed other regions with unit shipments increasing by +7%, following the double-digit decline last year", said Zivile Brazdziunaite, Imaging Market Analyst at CONTEXT. "All categories, except for laser MFPs, registered positive performance over the first quarter of 2017."

In UAE, although sell-in levels of laser hardware shrunk, overall sell-in levels increased by +19% due to the strong performance of inkjet technology devices. Despite a percentage point decline in printer hardware shipments to Turkey, because of weak performance of single-function devices, sell-in levels of multifunction laser and inkjet hardware increased. Unit shipments to Saudi Arabia continued to decline, while sell-in levels to South Africa improved, registering an increase of +3%.

Sell-in to Western Europe (WE) accounts for almost 70% of all printer hardware shipments to EMEA and performance in Q1 2017 was flat – an improvement on the -6% decline in the same quarter last year. Unit shipments to most major WE countries increased, mainly driven by multifunction devices. For France and the UK, the increase was a single percentage point and mainly down to inkjet technology devices, while laser hardware accounted for +2% year-on-year growth of unit shipments in Italy. Spain and the Netherlands registered double-digit growth of printer hardware sell-in. In contrast, unit shipments to Germany continued to shrink and were down by -5% with the decline spread across all categories except laser MFPs: shipments of these during the quarter increased by +12% year-on-year.

Performance in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) mirrored that of WE, remaining flat over the quarter. Sell-in to Russia returned to growth of +4% year-on-year, driven by laser MFPs, while printer hardware shipments to Kazakhstan and Belarus continued to register strong performances mainly driven by laser technology devices. By contrast, sell-in levels to Poland and the Czech Republic declined.

Avecto and REAL Security announce Adriatic partnership

Adriatics: global security software firm Avecto has expanded its European market presence with the signing of a distribution agreement with Slovenia-based security VAD REAL Security for the Adriatic region that includes Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. The partnership will enable REAL Security to enhance its current portfolio of security solutions with Avecto’s Defendpoint software, allowing its clients to successfully remove admin rights from all users through its integrated privilege management and application control technology. DefendPoint's multi-layered endpoint prevention is achieved by uniquely combining the three core capabilities of privilege management, application control and content isolation to reduce the attack surface and disrupt the attack chain.

"Malware has been around for a long time, but ransomware has brought this to a whole new level", said David Ivacic, sales director at Real Security. "Attackers have never been so financially motivated and the rate at which malware has been evolving means that the majority of standard security counter-measures are no longer adequate. This evolution in malware requires an equivalent evolution of IT security countermeasures, and this is especially true for the user endpoint – many have learned this lesson the hard way during the recent spate of WannaCry attacks across Europe. So we at REAL Security are very happy to be able to offer our customers and partners in the Adriatic market Avecto's DefendPoint solution, which we strongly believe will significantly decrease their malware related headaches."

"REAL Security, with its strong focus on providing complete security solutions, is the perfect fit for Avecto to partner with as we develop our market presence in and beyond the Adriatic region", said Peter Schaudeck, Avecto's Senior Channel Manager Central and Eastern Europe. "We are very excited to enter into this new partnership and together we are looking forward to developing new business opportunities and strong growth in this rapidly developing region of Europe."
