Another country for ALEF Distribution

Czech VAD ALEF Group has opened a new branch in Romania, which was founded as a joint venture with the Romanian company LIKE Solution, a distributor of IT solutions on the Romanian market. ALEF Distribution RO shows that Alef Distribution continues with its territorial expansion into new markets. "For ALEF Group's expansion into new markets is one of the strategic step. The extension helps us not only to reach more customers, but it helps to gain new knowledge and experience that can be transmitted throughout the company. News from Data Select, Mayflex and Midwich

United Kingdom: mobility specialist Data Select associate purchasing director Steve Hankey has left the company after more than a decade. He has been replaced by former Sainsbury’s mobile telecoms buyer Gareth Goddard. Hankey joined the Marlow-based hardware distributor in June 2007, in which time has seen the introduction of the Platinum Club for its reseller partners, which offers them a number of benefits to increase sales in the market while hosting bi-annual conferences. Prior to joining Data Select, he had been a senior buyer at 20:20 Logistics, where he was responsible for all areas of procurement for a number of Tier 1 manufacturers.

Network and cabling specialist Mayflex has appointed a new director of sales – security. Steve Proctor has commenced his role on the 1st August and his key responsibilities are to lead and support both internal and external sales teams, ensuring the continued growth and development of this area of the Mayflex business through taking market share, growing customer numbers and increasing project wins. Steve comes to Mayflex with a wealth of experience gained in the security industry over the last 40 years. Notable achievements have included the development and management of large sales teams, implementing business growth strategies, development of value add, consultancy led sales and marketing campaigns, and launching installer training and certification programmes.

Finally, AV broadliner Midwich has used summer to strengthen its portfolio with several new brands, including Joan (a meeting room booking solution), OrbitSound (audio speakers), Genie CCTV and 2N (IP security solutions). Mindware, Dell EMC extend partnership in KSA

Middle East: following a successful partnership across the Gulf, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, Dell EMC and network and storage VAD Mindware are now expanding the relationship into Saudi Arabia, where the distributor has already been a major player within the Dell EMC Client Solutions Group (CSG) product vertical. IRIS-MEGA acquires Colby

Adriatics: Serbian gaming specialist IRIS-MEGA has entered into an exclusive and binding agreement to acquire Colby, a Slovenian counterpart, for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition follows just a month after IRIS-MEGA's acquisition of Videotop Skupina, another Slovenian gaming specialist. Colby will continue to operate as an independent company under the new Slovenian division, with all staff being retained. The acquisition leads IRIS-MEGA, part of the ComputerLand Group of Companies, in becoming the undisputed market leading gaming distributor across the Adriatics region, with a distinct focus in Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.

Miodrag Stakic, CEO of ComputerLand Group, said: "the Slovenian market has been dominated by two distributors for more than 20 years. A month ago, we showcased our determination in expanding our strength in Adriatics through the purchase of Videotop. Telecom VAD ScanSource Imago has inked a distribution deal with Blue Jeans Networks, an online video-conferencing vendor, whose platform it will distribute in the Benelux (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) as well as in the DACH (Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) regions (source: IT Business Deutschland).

AudioCodes signs EMEA distribution agreement with Nuvias

Voice and UC networking vendor AudioCodes has signed a pan-EMEA distribution agreement with infrastructure VAD Nuvias, following the recent launch of Nuvias' Unified Communications (UC) Practice across EMEA. Nuvias is now able to offer complete end-to-end solutions and technical support for Skype for Business and BroadSoft Business UC environments, based on AudioCodes' Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and handsets. As part of the agreement, Nuvias has also been appointed as master distributor for AudioCodes' range of Skype for Business and SIP handsets across EMEA, to ensure a rapid response to meet growing demand from the channel.

AudioCodes worked with SIPHON Networks in the United Kingdom for two years, prior to SIPHON being acquired by the Nuvias Group at the end of 2016, and AudioCodes now sees the opportunity to replicate this successful relationship across EMEA. The initial focus will be on 16 key countries where Nuvias is already well established including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

ELKO enters Nordic region by acquiring Gandalf

Scandinavia: Latvian broadliner ELKO Grupa has reached an agreement to acquire 85% of shares in Swedish broadliner Gandalf Distribution for an undisclosed amount. "ELKO has been looking for geographical expansion opportunities for some time", said Svens Dinsdorfs, CEO ELKO Group. "Gandalf's business model and operational structure is very similar to our own and thus we feel confident about this acquisition. Gandalf’s team is highly motivated and professional and we feel comfortable about the coming integration process and ensuing synergy. By becoming a part of the ELKO Group, Gandalf will be able to significantly expand its product portfolio and benefit from various competence-sharing initiatives."

Gandalf will become a part of the ELKO Group, but for now will continue to operate under the Gandalf brand.
