Tech Data names experienced trio to play key roles in CTG

United Kingdom: broadliner Tech Data has three key appointments within its Consumer Technology Group (CTG), which was formed in February to provide a clear focus on opportunities around consumer technologies, such as consumer PCs and components, home networking and smart home products, PC gaming, VR and wearable devices, that present rapid growth potential for retailers and webstores.

Ross Turner has been named General Manager of CTG External Sales with responsibility for managing customer engagement and relationships. He will manage a team of four experienced account managers and play an active role in the ongoing evolution and development of Tech Data’s CTG strategy. Turner has been with Tech Data for over five years in a variety of FBU roles, most recently as Head of Consumer Business Development. Catherine Craig has been named as Business Manager for Consumer Hardware, which incorporates consumer PCs and components, home networking and smart home and PC gaming. She takes full commercial ownership of consumer hardware vendor partnerships and the category team, and will also play an important role in customer engagement. Craig was previously Category Manager for PC Components and Smart Home products. The third announcement sees the role of Teresa Johnston, Business Development Manager for Smart Home, expanded to cover consumer hardware with the aim of maximising customer engagement for key opportunities. Tech Data is also currently recruiting a dedicated Business Development Manager for Gaming with an announcement expected within the few weeks.

The Tech Data Consumer Technology Group provides a clear focus on consumer electronics areas in which there is now significant cross-over and ensures that all sales and marketing efforts are fully aligned. Formed in February this year, it is headed by Matt Child, who also retains his responsibilities for the Tech Data Mobile business unit.

Child stated: "we are now seeing an unprecedented wave of new development in which the lines between product categories are becoming blurred. Our vendors now have devices and product ranges that bridge different areas of consumer technology, such as devices and home networking, gaming and the smart home, VR and wearables. Tech Data Renew trade-in service can help resellers accelerate refresh cycles

United Kingdom: broadliner Tech Data is targeting the growing area of trade-ins, offering a service that will enable resellers to offer trade-ins on a wide range of mobile products and increase sales by driving adoption of the latest technologies and advancing refresh cycles. Tech Data Renew provides a highly-competitive, trusted, simple and integrated trade-in service on leading-brand smartphones, tablets and laptops. Proposals can be customised to meet exact needs of the customer and Tech Data can provide swift and decisive responses to requests for quotations on specific products. All of this is available through a dedicated portal, which can be accessed via Tech Data's e-com platform, InTouch.

Simon Smale, Commercial Director of Services, Europe for Tech Data, says that the service meets a growing need in the channel: "as a leading distributor, Tech Data sits at the very heart of the market and we are constantly watching and analysing trends. Many businesses and individual users want to make use the very latest technologies, which means they need to refresh devices more frequently. But they also want to make sure they get the very best value from their existing assets. Trade-ins are becoming an important element in the market, especially with premium brands that retain high residual values. The Tech Data Renew service provides resellers with a simple way to facilitate the trade-in of products and enables them to offer creative and attractive propositions to customers on new devices."

The Tech Data Renew service is available on selected laptops and desktops as well as tablets and smartphones, and Tech Data will provide an instant valuation of devices and free courier collection for five or more devices. All recycling and reselling is carried out in accordance with UK and EU legislation, including the WEEE directive. Data clearance services that guarantee data is removed from customer devices are also part of the process.

Tech Data renews Triade

The new group, which includes 40 employees and kind of replaces defunct TD Triade, is headed by Matt Child, who is also Managing Director of Tech Data Mobile. It will provide a clear focus on the consumer electronics areas in which there is now significant cross-over and ensure that all sales and marketing efforts are fully aligned. Tech Data completes acquisition of Avnet's Technology Solutions business

The combination creates a premier global end-to-end IT distributor with unmatched capabilities and the most diverse solutions from the data center to the living room. Financial Terms

The total purchase price at close was approximately €2.35 billion (subject to certain post-close adjustments), including €2.17 billion in cash, and 2,785,402 shares of Tech Data stock, representing approximately 7.3% of Tech Data's shares outstanding (after issuance of the new shares). Tech Data financed the cash portion of the purchase price through a combination of €900 million from its recent public debt offering and €900 million of bank term loans, and the remainder from drawings under other credit facilities and cash on hand. The transaction is expected to be significantly accretive to Tech Data's non-GAAP earnings per share in the first full year. The company expects to achieve annual cost savings of approximately €90 million within 24 months, with one-time costs to achieve these cost savings expected to be approximately €135 million.

Tech Data Europe builds complete cloud ecosystem for Microsoft partners

Broadliner Tech Data Europe is creating a complete Microsoft cloud ecosystem that will enable partners to deliver the Microsoft's entire software stack, along with complementary solutions, quickly and efficiently through a single, integrated management platform. All of Microsoft's cloud-based solutions, including Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), are available through the Tech Data Cloud Solution Store, powered by the company’s StreamOne platform, as part of the Microsoft Cloud Solutions Provider (CSP) program. This means resellers, VARs and MSPs can offer the full range of Microsoft solutions alongside complementary offerings through a single portal, and also make use of the monitoring and billing capabilities of Tech Data's platform to manage their customer accounts. "Microsoft solutions are widely used in most end-user organisations and many customers now want to use those applications in the cloud, so it's important that resellers can support the entire stack", said Reza Honarmand, vice president, Cloud, Europe at Tech Data. "In addition, customers need efficient ways to manage and integrate applications and ensure their data is properly backed-up, safe and secure. Through our Cloud Solution Store, Tech Data is providing not only the complete Microsoft suite under the CSP program, but also a whole range of complementary solutions and services that will enable VARs and MSPs to add value to the services they offer and enhance their long-term business prospects."

Further strengthening Tech Data's portfolio of value-added services, the company has recently signed pan-European partnership agreements with the following four leading providers of complementary solutions and plans to make additional services available over the next several months:

  • NetEnrich: a global leader in cloud management which provides services on Microsoft Azure and other advanced cloud solutions. Its white-labelled offerings enable partners to provide management and operations services for data centres, network, unified communications, cloud, and security operations.
  • Spanning by Dell EMC: the leader in SaaS data protection, providing intuitive and scalable cloud-to-cloud backup and recovery services for Office 365. When human factors such as user error, misconfigurations or malicious behavior like ransomware cause Office 365 data to be deleted or damaged, Spanning enables administrators and end users to recover the data and continue business operations quickly and easily.
  • OneBizz: an integrated cloud business solution that encompasses Microsoft ERP, CRM and productivity software and simplifies Microsoft Dynamics and Office 365 environments, making it easy for resellers to offer these solutions to their customers as a fully integrated business solution.
  • Mandarine: a leading provider of instructor-led online training that drives user adoption of products such as Microsoft Office 365. It uses innovative tools to scale training to large numbers of employees virtually.
