Irish storage VAD CMS Distribution has acquired consumer electronics specialist TNS Connect from PCH for an undisclosed amount. This acquisition further strengthens CMS Distribution's position as Europe's leading IT specialist distributor. Frank Salmon, founder and CEO of CMS Distribution, commented on the acquisition: "we are delighted to welcome TNS Connect to the group. As specialists in emerging consumer technologies, they have an impressive range of vendors and customers which perfectly complement the CMS Distribution portfolio. Our customers will gain access to the latest consumer technology trends, an increased product portfolio, additional sales and marketing resources and more competitive offerings. We are very excited to offer our vendor partners new routes to market, allowing them to explore new business opportunities."
Liam Casey, CEO and Founder of PCH, said: "TNS Connect has been part of the PCH family for the past six years, and we are grateful to the TNS team for their valuable contribution and commitment. We know that CMS is the right parent company to take TNS to the next level given their focus on enhancing their product distribution capability. PCH continues to focus on our core business providing highly differentiated and value-added product development, manufacturing, packaging and fulfilment services globally." Following the acquisition, CMS Distribution will now employ over 300 people across the group with a very strong foothold in Europe covering Benelux, France (through a recently opened office in Paris), Ireland (under CMS and TNS names), Scandinavia and the United Kingdom (under CMS, TNS and Widget names). CMS will continue to run the business under TNS Connect's brand for the foreseeable future and TNS's leadership and management team will remain, continuing to focus on the growth of the business.
Co-founders John McHugh and Ivan Eustace, of TNS Connect, said: "We are excited to be part of a large distribution business that has ambitious growth plans, and has already invested in systems and people to materialise them. Our customer and vendor offerings will provide great business opportunities for our channel partners so we can embark on this journey of growth together."
Ireland: storage VAD CMS Distribution has appointed Niall Wall as Non-Executive Director. Niall brings a wealth of leadership experience. Until recently he was CEO at Ardagh Group, a global packaging business with revenues of €8Bn and formerly Sterile Technologies Group and Tipperary Crystal. Wall retains a major shareholder at Ardagh Group. He will join as Non-Executive Director at CMS Distribution's parent company, Storit Limited. "I am delighted to join the board as I believe CMS Distribution is at a very exciting stage of its evolution in a very exciting industry", said Wall. Frank Salmon, CEO of CMS Distribution, commented: "I am delighted to end the year with the appointment of Niall Wall, another highlight for 2016. This has been a fantastic year for CMS Distribution, we have completed our 3rd acquisition and integration, expanded into Benelux and Scandinavia and are now excited to have Niall on the board of Storit to support us with our ambitious growth plans."
Irish storage VAD CMS Distribution has built on its partnership with Scandinavian consumer electronics specialist Newgen Distribution by acquiring a majority stake in the business. Newgen's founder shareholders Axel Djurson and Max Ellberg will stay on with the business as joint managing directors, and retain the remaining share capital. Newgen supplies key retailers in the region with a range of products. Sales in 2016 are expected to exceed €13.8m, up 100% on the previous year. CMS Distribution acquired a minority stake in Newgen as part of its acquisition of fellow distributor Widget earlier this year. That stake has now been increased to over 50%, making Newgen a subsidiary of CMS Distribution Ltd. Frank Salmon, CEO of CMS Distribution, said: "we are delighted to increase our involvement with the Scandinavian markets. CMS wants to become a significant player in continental Europe, opening up more opportunities for our suppliers and offering the benefits of scale to our customers." Newgen will be managed separately from CMS Distribution BV, the group's 100% owned subsidiary in continental Europe, which is based in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
CMS plans growth for Benelux
Irish storage VAD CMS Distribution, which is also present in the United Kingdom and owns mobility specialist Widget and its subsidiaries in the Netherlands and Sweden, has unveiled plans to expand its Dutch business beyond mobility and consumer electronics. NOW Mobile has been recently renamed CMS Distribution BV and, while it currently continues to focus on its historical business, it will expand in the storage and software businesses in 2017. It is yet unknown when similar plans will be taken for the Swedish business. Beside all this, the distributor is already planning more acquisitions, another one planned to be announced shortly.
United Kingdom: storage VAD CMS Distribution has joined forces with Widget Group, a distributor of consumer emerging technology based in the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom. This acquisition further strengthens CMS Distribution's position in the European market. Commenting on the acquisition, Frank Salmon, founder and managing director of CMS Distribution said: "We are delighted to have teamed up with Widget Group, they are experts in emerging consumer technologies with an impressive portfolio of vendors in the UK and Europe. They have a large and loyal customer base and, like CMS, they are an award winning distributor in their field. The decision to buy Widget Group was based on several inherent synergies between the two organisations, including growth plans, leverage, scale and a track record of success."
Following the acquisition, CMS Distribution will target combined revenues of €410m+ for FY’16 and now employs 250 people across the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands. CMS will continue to run the business under Widget Group's brands for the foreseeable future and Widget's leadership and management team will remain and continue to focus on the growth of the business. Mark Needham, founder and chairman of Widget Group, commented: "It's a great move for Widget as well as the vendors and customers we represent and the staff we employ. Being part of a larger, value-add distribution business brings tremendous opportunities for the future and we are excited by the next stage in the joint CMS-Widget journey."
Frank Salmon concluded: "We are changing the game in IT Distribution. We are combining scale and specialisation for our vendors and customers both in the UK and Ireland and now across Europe. We are on track with our vision to become the leading specialist distributor in Europe."
