Tech Data names experienced trio to play key roles in CTG
2017-07-13

United Kingdom: broadliner Tech Data has three key appointments within its Consumer Technology Group (CTG), which was formed in February to provide a clear focus on opportunities around consumer technologies, such as consumer PCs and components, home networking and smart home products, PC gaming, VR and wearable devices, that present rapid growth potential for retailers and webstores.

Ross Turner has been named General Manager of CTG External Sales with responsibility for managing customer engagement and relationships. He will manage a team of four experienced account managers and play an active role in the ongoing evolution and development of Tech Data’s CTG strategy. Turner has been with Tech Data for over five years in a variety of FBU roles, most recently as Head of Consumer Business Development. Catherine Craig has been named as Business Manager for Consumer Hardware, which incorporates consumer PCs and components, home networking and smart home and PC gaming. She takes full commercial ownership of consumer hardware vendor partnerships and the category team, and will also play an important role in customer engagement. Craig was previously Category Manager for PC Components and Smart Home products. The third announcement sees the role of Teresa Johnston, Business Development Manager for Smart Home, expanded to cover consumer hardware with the aim of maximising customer engagement for key opportunities. Tech Data is also currently recruiting a dedicated Business Development Manager for Gaming with an announcement expected within the few weeks.

Mark Glasspool, Director – Product Marketing and Sales, Consumer Technology Group, said: "we are really excited about the opportunities we have in the Tech Data CTG and it's vitally important for us to get the right people and partnerships in place, so that we can help our customers take their opportunities. In Ross, Catherine and Teresa, we have three highly experienced and capable individuals, and all of them will play important roles as we continue to grow and move towards our objective of being the first-choice distributor of consumer technologies in the UK."

The Tech Data Consumer Technology Group provides a clear focus on consumer electronics areas in which there is now significant cross-over and ensures that all sales and marketing efforts are fully aligned. Formed in February this year, it is headed by Matt Child, who also retains his responsibilities for the Tech Data Mobile business unit.

Child stated: "we are now seeing an unprecedented wave of new development in which the lines between product categories are becoming blurred. Our vendors now have devices and product ranges that bridge different areas of consumer technology, such as devices and home networking, gaming and the smart home, VR and wearables. It's vitally important that we can focus on all the opportunities these technologies bring for our partners. The Consumer Technology Group will provide the focus and synergy needed to maximise the potential. The market has moved on from a product based sell – it's now about propositions, ecosystems and connected experiences. As these markets develop, this will become even more important. We see very significant growth in these areas and we will be making strategic and targeted investments to ensure that Tech Data and will lead the way in identifying opportunities and opening them up for our vendor partners and customers."

Tech Data offers pre-delivery inspection (PDI) service on HP printers and scanners
2017-07-11

United Kingdom: broadliner Tech Data is now offering pre-delivery inspection (PDI) service on HP Inc. printers and scanners, making it easier for resellers to provide a higher level of service to customers. The service ensures that devices are ready to run on delivery and can match up to the high expectations customers will have of their supplier of HP devices.

Stephen Martin, Print Business Unit Manager at Tech Data, said: "the new PDI on HP printers and scanners is fast, cost-effective, and allows resellers to deliver the best possible customer experience. Peripheral devices are expected to work out-of-the box, and while that's certainly what you’d always expect with HP, being able to make sure that everything is properly set-up and ready to go is a great way to add value for customers and avoid wasted time and hassle."

The Tech Data PDI service includes:

  • Unboxing
  • Installation of cartridges
  • Initialisation/calibration
  • Set up of data/time/location
  • Set up of paper tray
  • Test AD/scanner assembly (MFP only)
  • Run test print / assess print quality
  • Repackage
  • Box itinerary check

The service is available on HP LaserJet and PageWide models from only €22 per unit. There are also options for special delivery, unpacking and connection, installation, disposal of packaging and machine demonstration, if required. Additional trays and stackers can be fitted, software installed, firmware updated and asset tags added, as required.

Tech Data extends power management portfolio with Eaton
2017-07-06

Broadliner Tech Data has extended its range of power management solutions by signing a distribution agreement with Eaton, the leading supplier of energy-efficient solutions for data centres and critical systems. With immediate effect, the complete Eaton range of UPS Backup Power and Monitoring products will be available from Tech Data in both Ireland and the United Kingdom, as well as a comprehensive choice of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), which includes DC power solutions, surge protection and monitoring devices. As well as delivering quality and reliable performance, Eaton power solutions help customers to manage their overall power consumption and meet environmental goals without compromising the safety of their business-critical architecture and systems.

Tech Data extends smart home range with Tado° heating control sensors
2017-06-29

United Kingdom: broadliner Tech Data has signed a partnership with tado°, a market leader in intelligent home climate control, giving IT retailers and webstores the opportunity to offer the company's Smart AC Control and Smart Thermostat to consumers for the first time. By using its unique geo-aware app, tado° solutions adjust the temperature based on a residents' location automatically, enabling households to reduce energy costs by as much as 31%, while optimising the comfort of their homes. The tado° Smart AC Control works with millions of remote control AC units. Users simply download the free app for iOS, Android, or Windows. The controller will then sense their location and conserve energy or ensure the house is comfortable in time for their arrival. It can also integrate with other smart home environments such as Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The tado° Smart Thermostat and Smart Radiator Thermostats provide multi-room control. These can also make use of geolocation-based control and automation. Two Starter Kits are available – one for homes with their own heating system, and one for a home with radiator thermostats. For multi-zone control, additional devices can be added.

Teresa Johnston, Business Development Manager for Smart Home and Home Networking at Tech Data, said: "we're obsessed with the weather in Britain and it seems to get more and more unpredictable, so the potential for home heating control is huge. We all want to come home to a nice warm house but we also don't want to waste money. With tado° you get both, so when it's cold outside, you can make sure it's always warm by the time you at home, and when its warmer outside, you can ensure you don’t waste money by turning the heating and even individual radiators off remotely."
